On Safer Internet Day, observed on 10 February, the Museum of Post and Telecommunications, in cooperation with its co-founder Telekom Slovenije and the Centre for School and Extracurricular Activities (CŠOD), held a week of workshops entitled Don’t take the bait – Enjoy intelligently. The workshops took place from 2 to 6 February 2026 and were designed for pupils from the 6th to the 9th grade of primary school.
As part of their technical activity days, pupils explored the history of post and telecommunications at the museum, while also raising awareness of contemporary cybersecurity challenges. The classes linked topical issues relating to safe internet use with the everyday use of smart devices, encouraging pupils to reflect on online traps, using caution and responsible online behaviour.
In the February term, 208 pupils and 16 teachers attended the workshops. Together with the sessions delivered past November, a total of 405 pupils and 38 teachers took part. The lecturers, Anja Kostevc, Nika Pukart Jeličič and Vito Plavšič, were delighted with the positive feedback from participants. They particularly appreciated the fact that children and teachers confirmed they had gained a great deal of new knowledge and would share what they had learned at home, thereby fostering intergenerational dialogue on safe internet use.
“This year, in addition to offering pupils an insight into the past, we also wanted to address a topic they encounter daily when using smartphones – cybersecurity. We are pleased that, in cooperation with Telekom Slovenije, we have successfully linked museum content with the challenges of modern society,” emphasised Ajda Kozjek, Senior Curator at the Museum of Post and Telecommunications.
From the schools’ perspective, the workshops represent an important complement to the educational process. As Greta Jadrič, a teacher at Anton Globočnik Primary School Postojna, explained: “We attended the workshop with our 8th grade pupils, who learned about online traps in an engaging and informative way, and discovered how to be more attentive and safer online. The workshop was not only beneficial for pupils, but also for the teachers present, as we became aware of several new online traps.”
Petra Pust, Head of the Enjoy Intelligently project at Telekom Slovenije, added: “Young people are growing up in a world of digital communications, but this does not necessarily mean they understand the associated risks. This means that the transfer of knowledge is extremely important, as knowledge and personal caution are the strongest safeguards against online fraud and impulsive clicks that shape our digital footprint. The museum has proven to be an excellent classroom, clearly connecting the development of technologies with the role of the user in the digital society.”
The Centre for School and Extracurricular Activities has been cooperating in the delivery of these technical activity days for more than 15 years. They emphasise that such content is highly relevant and that pupils are particularly engaged by active participation and the exchange of personal experiences.
The Don’t take the bait workshops are delivered as part of Telekom Slovenije’s Enjoy Intelligently initiative, which promotes safe, moderate and responsible internet use and highlights that knowledge, dialogue and caution are our best protection in the digital world.
The Museum of Post and Telecommunications will continue to deliver similar content in the future, as cybersecurity is one of the key skills of modern society.
