The Olympic Committee of Slovenia – Association of Sports Federations today officially presented the Athlete-Friendly Education certificates to representatives of 18 secondary schools and 25 higher education institutions that provide athletes with the opportunity to balance their education and sports careers.
The attendees at the event were also greeted by judoist and Olympic champion Andreja Leški, who in her speech emphasised the importance of athletes receiving support and having the right conditions for obtaining education during their athletic careers; she herself successfully completed her studies at the Faculty of Economics. On this occasion, the Olympic Committee of Slovenia and Telekom Slovenije, a long-standing major sponsor of the Slovenian Olympic team, announced that they are extending their collaboration for another four-year period. Telekom Slovenije will continue to support the development of activities related to athletes' dual careers.
"At the Olympic Committee of Slovenia, with the support of sponsors and various ministries we perform activities, projects and programmes at the national level that support athletes and their dual careers – with support for both their education and employment. It is extremely important to ensure that athletes can transition to their second career, which follows their athletic career, as smoothly and quickly as possible. We are also truly pleased to have partners like Telekom Slovenije, which has been a sponsor of Slovenian Olympians for almost 30 years and also recognises the importance of the assistance that athletes need on their path to obtaining the desired education," emphasised Franjo Bobinac, President of the Olympic Committee of Slovenia.
"At Telekom Slovenije, we have been traditional supporters of Slovenian sport for decades now. We are very proud to extend our almost 30-year collaboration with the Olympic Committee of Slovenia – we are more than just a sponsor, we are a partner in a shared mission. That's why we continue to 'cheer intelligently' for all Slovenian athletes, encouraging them on their journey even when it is difficult for them. But sport is not just a professional arena – it is movement, it is health and it connects people of all generations. As a major supporter of Slovenian sport, we want it to become accessible to every individual, regardless of age, abilities or ambitions. That is why we will continue to uphold our commitment – to invest in sport that pushes boundaries and connects us," said Boštjan Škufca Zaveršek, Vice President of the Management Board of Telekom Slovenije.
The Athlete-Friendly Education certificate signifies that the educational institutions that receive it provide athletes with the ability to pursue their education and, if necessary, take exams remotely, along with certain other adjustments. At the secondary school level, this primarily includes the possibility of advance notice for oral examinations and written assignments, while at the tertiary level, it mainly concerns time flexibility in terms of submitting papers and other assignments, special examination dates and similar arrangements.
For the 2025/26 academic year, the certificate has been awarded to 13 faculties of the University of Ljubljana, nine faculties of the University of Maribor, one faculty each from Alma Mater Europaea University and the University of Primorska, and the Angela Boškin Faculty of Health Sciences. Among the secondary school institutions, grammar schools and secondary school programmes from Ljubljana, Radovljica, Kranj, Jesenice, Murska Sobota, Novo mesto, Celje, Maribor and Rogaška Slatina have received the certificate. The Olympic Committee of Slovenia also supports 93 programmes of sports departments in general and sports grammar schools.
