Telekom Slovenije, which manages the biggest mobile and fibre-optic networks in the country, supports connection to its fibre-optics network for more than 460,000 Slovenian households, and together with its subsidiary GVO, which constructs and maintains broadband fibre-optics networks, this number rises to half a million households. At the same time, the company also invests intensively and diligently in enhancement and development of state-of-the-art mobile technologies.

In 2023 alone, Telekom Slovenije has made it possible for an additional 17,000 households to connect to its fibre-optics network, while its 5G mobile technology provided coverage to an additional 420,000 inhabitants and strengthened the capabilities and capacities of the entire mobile network. With the 5G network, Telekom Slovenije already achieves more than 60% population coverage, and by 2025 this will rise to 99% in accordance with development needs, demands, and plans. This makes it possible for the leading Slovenian provider of comprehensive telecommunications services and solutions to actively realise its vision of a gigabit digital Slovenia by 2030.

“Telekom Slovenije is the infrastructural foundation of connected users and devices. We are constantly expanding our network, upgrading it and adding the latest technologies that are making it more energy and technologically efficient. This allows us to utilise our accomplished infrastructure to provide our users with information and communication services in line with the latest trends and needs and their expectations. As a reliable provider of critical infrastructure and digitalisation of services we plan the continued development in technology and services, while putting special focus on increasing the value of our services through the inclusion of cybersecurity solutions,” said Vesna Prodnik, Management Board Member of Telekom Slovenije responsible for technology.

Telekom Slovenije’s network connects a growing number of users of other operators in Slovenia, because Telekom Slovenije is making it possible to provide them with high-quality connections, where other operators lack infrastructure of their own. Telekom Slovenije’s high-performance, high-capacity and highly robust network is used by more than a million users every day.

Telekom Slovenije diligently, strategically and sustainably develops and upgrades its network both in rural and urban areas in such a way to ensure its users with the best possible user experience, regardless of the technology. Because of the exceptional capability of the mobile network, it can provide users with fixed services (internet, TV and fixed telephone service) immediately by utilising 4G and 5G mobile technologies, where other options are not available.

“Data traffic over the 4G and 5G networks is constantly growing, with approximately 25% of users already connecting through 5G devices, and all of them expect the best possible and highly reliable network coverage. Telekom Slovenije’s mobile network is noted for its top-of-the-line user experience, which could not be achieved without the meticulous planning and investments in our networks and infrastructure, and particularly, our highly skilled team with their expertise and experience. This is why business and residential users remain our loyal customers or they return to our secure network. We are amidst a decade of transition to gigabit mobile and fibre-optics technologies, with the future bringing exceptionally higher upload speeds, in accordance with the trends in growth and the development of video services. Concurrently we will utilise modern network technologies to digitalise the industry and critical infrastructure sectors. We are a reliable and trustworthy ICT partner for all our users and our development partners,” added Matjaž Beričič, Network and Infrastructure Director at Telekom Slovenije.

The development of 5G networks as an evolutionary upgrade is a complex and long-term technological project that requires the best know-how, a strong, secure and stable network, advanced technology, and understanding and the ability to manage the full network value-chain.

At the end of November 2023 Telekom Slovenije achieved the latest milestone in technology and development by establishing the INO.LAB, a demonstration environment of a private mobile 5G network. These introduce a completely new level of connectivity for businesses, supporting fast and stable device connectivity with a high level of responsiveness, which is essential for the implementation of advanced technologies, such as smart factories, the industrial internet of things (IIoT), advanced logistics centres, modern distribution and energy networks, and similar.
