Telekom Slovenije’s mobile network carries 70% more traffic than in the same period last year

With remote school and work Telekom Slovenije has been facing an exceptional increase in the traffic load on its mobile network. Mobile service users now make twice as many calls, which are not only more frequent, but also longer, and transfer over 70% more data than in the same period last year.

In spite of exceptionally increased loads, the network’s operation is reliable and stable, which is the result of planned investments in technology and development. Users have been gradually switching to fifth generation mobile networks (5G), and there are currently over 5,000 mobile devices with 5G support in Telekom Slovenije’s network, and their number is constantly growing.

When preparing for the introduction of 5G, which commercially launched on 5 October of this year, Telekom Slovenije had thoroughly upgraded its whole network, so that it is ready for the expected continued growth in data transfer. “We provide users with uninterrupted service operation even under these exceptional circumstances, when an unprecedented increase in traffic is reflected in higher amounts of transferred data, and we also provide increasingly higher data transfer speeds. With the 5G network these speeds are further increasing, and a growing number of users are opting to purchase 5G mobile devices. We are the only Slovenian operator that supports the use of advanced technologies, including 5G, on Apple iPhone series 12 devices. The fact that our network is the best and our services cutting edge, has also been confirmed by our users in different surveys,” explained Matjaž Beričič, MSc., Telekom Slovenije’s Management Board member and CTO.

Telekom Slovenije’s mobile network is used by more than a million users every day, as it is also used by other operators in Slovenia due to being advanced, reliable, and secure, with excellent coverage.

Users can test speeds and responsiveness of our mobile network with the SpeedTest and AKOS Test Net applications free of charge.
Telekom Slovenije believes in the quality of its network, which it has been carefully and deliberately developing for 30 years. This is why we made it possible for our users to test speeds and responsiveness of our mobile network with the established apps SpeedTest and AKOS Test Net without limits and free of charge. The data transferred when testing will not count towards the users’ data allowance. This is Telekom Slovenije’s way of supporting transparent tests of network quality.

5G use free of charge until the end of the year
Telekom Slovenije subscribers can activate 5G services in the Moj Telekom account management portal or by sending a text message with the keyword 5G to 1918. During the promotional period until the end of this year, 5G use is free of charge (from 1 January 2021, the monthly subscription fee will be €3 on NekiNeki plans or €6 on all other plans).
For the best experience Telekom Slovenije recommends the Naj 5G plan, which brings unlimited calls and messaging in Slovenia and EU-rate countries, as well as a 300 GB data allowance (of which 13,903 MB can be used in EU-rate countries), with speeds of 450/100 Mbps and the VoLTE (Voice-Over-LTE) and VoWiFi (Voice-Over-WiFi) services.

5G services can be used on mobile phones that support 5G over the 2600 MHz frequency band, and feature the appropriate software. Currently these include the Samsung Galaxy S20 5G, the Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G, the Huawei P40 Pro, the Huawei Mate Xs, the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Pro, the iPhone 12 mini, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the LG Wing 5G, and very soon also the Samsung Galaxy A42 5G.
