Telekom Slovenije now able to connect additional 250,000 households across Slovenia to its fibre optics network

Telekom Slovenije is now able to connect an additional 250,000 households to its fibre optics network, both in urban centres and rural areas. The key advantages of fibre optic connections include reliability, security, high internet speeds, better picture and sound quality, and lower latency. Fibre optics is the technology of the future, and is also more stable in cases of lightning strikes or power fluctuations.

Additionally, the stability, reliability, and high speeds are maintained even over greater distances from the exchanges, which is crucial for ensuring high-quality services, especially in rural and suburban areas. Because older technologies can cause internet connections to freeze more frequently, Telekom Slovenije has launched the campaign "Unfreeze Slovenia”, encouraging users to switch to fibre optics.

Telekom Slovenije operates the biggest and most advanced fibre optics network in the country, and the network is being expanded both in urban centres and rural areas. It already caters to the largest number of residential and business users, and can now provide the best internet and television services to an additional 250,000 Slovenian households. In the fibre optics network, users have powerful and reliable internet access with transfer speeds of up to 2 Gbps, and on request, even up to 10 Gbps.

"The future of communications is based on reliable and secure fibre optic connections. More and more users and devices are being connected to the network, and an increasing number of business solutions and consumer services depend on network performance. This is why we encourage users who have the option to choose 'Always getting better' and replace their older connections with our most advanced fibre optic network. This will provide them with a significantly improved user experience. We carefully, strategically, and sustainably design our modern infrastructure in line with the needs of our users and the future in mind," emphasises Boštjan Škufca Zaveršek, Vice President of the Management Board of Telekom Slovenije.

The transition to fibre optics is free for existing and new Telekom Slovenije subscribers.

Where fibre optic connections are not possible, Telekom Slovenije provides fixed services via 4G and 5G mobile technologies, relying on the exceptional capacity of its mobile network. 4G technology has 98% population coverage, and Telekom Slovenije continues to improve it. With 5G, it currently provides 65% population coverage, and in the next year, it will reach 99%.

Telekom Slovenije designs and upgrades its network in line with user needs and a development-oriented strategy. It is an operator of critical infrastructure, and has its own regional backbone network. With advanced cyber protection mechanisms and a network operations centre, it ensures reliable and secure operation of services.
