Telekom Slovenije is the first Slovenian operator to introduce VoLTE mobile roaming for making calls over the LTE/4G network

Telekom Slovenije, the leading telecommunications service provider in Slovenia, has taken the next development step and is pleased to announce that it has established the first mobile roaming agreement, where voice traffic is provided over the LTE/4G network, known as VoLTE (Voice over LTE). Telekom Slovenije has launched its first VoLTE mobile roaming in the USA, in collaboration with one of the biggest American mobile operators, T-Mobile. This allows Slovenian users to enjoy the highest quality calls while roaming in the USA.

The advantage of making calls over the LTE/4G network is that the sound quality is significantly better compared to calls made over 2G or 3G networks, as HD voice standard is the default. In addition, VoLTE supports faster call connection, has lower mobile phone battery consumption, and supports simultaneous calling and data transmission in 5G and LTE/4G networks. With the global trend of gradually phasing out 2G and 3G networks, VoLTE mobile roaming will become increasingly important.

VoLTE mobile roaming is available to all Telekom Slovenije mobile subscribers; the VoLTE service is supported by the vast majority of mobile phones on the market. Furthermore, Telekom Slovenije is preparing and in some cases already conducting tests with several international operators, so we can expect VoLTE mobile roaming to soon become a common feature for its users when roaming in most countries. This will further enhance the user experience while roaming.

Telekom Slovenije already provides LTE/4G network mobile roaming with more than 200 operators in 99 countries, and 5G mobile roaming with approximately 110 operators in 54 countries.

The services that support making calls over the LTE/4G network (VoLTE) and over the WiFi wireless network (VoWiFi) significantly improve the user experience.
Telekom Slovenije was the first in Slovenia to launch VoLTE in the spring of 2017, and in 2018, it introduced the VoWiFi (Voice over WiFi) service. With VoWiFi, users can make voice calls abroad via a WiFi network. An extremely important advantage is that regardless of the country the user is in, calling and sending SMS messages via VoWiFi is charged at the same rate as regular calls or SMS messages in Slovenia or is deducted from the included quantities of the subscription plan.
