Telekom Slovenije investing in cutting-edge technologies and the 5G network

11. 12. 2024

Telekom Slovenije has signed an EUR 80 million loan agreement with UniCredit Banka Slovenija bank to finance investments, day-to-day operations, and the consolidation of long-term debt. The funds will support the implementation of the company's ambitious development strategy and strengthen Telekom Slovenije's position in the market.

Over the last ten years, Telekom Slovenije has invested more than EUR 680 million in the development and maintenance of its fixed and mobile networks. In addition to a cutting-edge mobile network, Telekom Slovenije also offers an advanced fibre-optics network. 250,000 households can already be connected to this network, both in urban centres and rural areas, with a total of more than half of Slovenian households already having access to fibre-optic connections. The successful expansion of the 5G network, which already covers more than 1.5 million people in Slovenia, will continue in 2025. Telekom Slovenije plans to achieve 99% population coverage with its 5G network by the end of 2025. Investments in high-performance networks will ensure an excellent user experience.

Boštjan Košak, President of the Management Board of Telekom Slovenije, d.d.: “As the leading operator in the market, we are committed to providing a superior offering for our customers. With the funds made available by this loan agreement, we will support the implementation of our ambitious development strategy. As the infrastructural backbone of Slovenian society, we will continue to invest in cutting-edge technologies, network modernisation, and the provision of secure and reliable services. In doing so, we remain committed to sustainable business practices and creating long-term value for all stakeholders.”

Lorenzo Ramajola, CEO of UniCredit Banka Slovenija d.d., and Tanja Turk, Member of the Management Board of UniCredit Banka Slovenija d.d.: “We are proud that Telekom Slovenije has chosen UniCredit Banka Slovenija as its partner in financing the strategically important modernisation of its mobile network. This project, which will enable 99% population coverage by the end of 2025, will not only improve the quality and accessibility of services for our customers, but will also contribute to maintaining competitiveness in the mobile communications market. UniCredit Banka Slovenija is committed to supporting innovative and sustainable projects that accelerate digital transformation and economic development. 5G technology, which is at the heart of this modernisation, provides a path towards developing smart city solutions and numerous advanced digital services, with Telekom Slovenije setting new standards in connectivity for both residential and business customers. The bank’s support for this project is not only an investment in technology, but also in the future of the society and the economy, as it supports the development of more powerful networks and promotes innovation and connectivity across all levels.”
