In the beginning of May Telekom Slovenije began offering its subscribers on the fibre optics network speeds of 1 Gbps, and now the company took the next step, making it even faster.
From today the existing and new subscribers to current fixed subscription plans on the fibre optics network can upgrade their fixed internet speeds to 2 gigabits per second (Gbps). At the same time, Telekom Slovenije is continuing with activities to upgrade its fibre optics network with the XGS-PON technology that supports speeds of up to 10 Gbps. At the moment Telekom Slovenije provides the option of connecting to the fibre optics network to more than 424,000 Slovenian households, i.e., more than a half.
2 Gbps data transfer speeds are currently available only in bigger towns and cities; however, they will gradually become available to a growing number of users across Slovenia. A surcharge for speed upgrade costs EUR 16 in the subscription plans NEO A, NEO B, NEO C, NEO Svet A, NEO Svet B, NEO Svet C, NEO SuperNet, Poslovni net, Poslovni duo and NEO poslovni. Speed upgrades are also available on the open broadband network, where technical characteristics support them.
Users are transferring increasingly greater volumes of data in Telekom Slovenije’s network, which requires consistent technological development and adding new features. Telekom Slovenije is successful in this endeavour, as is evident from the trust its users place in the network, voting Telekom Slovenije’s mobile and fixed networks as the best in Slovenia. Because the volume of transferred data is constantly growing along with the needs for high-speed data transfer, the development in telecommunications is not stopping. Already in 2020 Telekom Slovenije has successfully tested advanced technological solution that brings gigabit connections to users on the fibre optic network with speeds of up to 10 Gbps, while continuing with activities for the construction of the 10 Gbps XGS-PON fibre optic network across the whole country.
Telekom Slovenije manages the biggest and most advanced fibre optic network in the country, as it is available to more than a half of Slovenian households. Just in 2021 it extended its fibre optic network to allow additional 42,150 households. Over the past few years the company has put over EUR 100 million per year towards upgrading, expanding and developing the network and the ICT infrastructure.
