Telekom Slovenije Group successfully navigated challenging market conditions, high energy prices, and flood damage to its infrastructure in 2023, surpassing set goals and significantly improving its performance compared to 2022.
• Net profit reached EUR 47.1 million, and is the highest since 2015, and 25% higher than 2022.
• In 2023 Telekom Slovenije Group increased revenue by 7%, and had 6% higher earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA), and 27% higher earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT).
The achievements reflect the development-oriented operations and state-of-the-art services and solutions that Telekom Slovenije Group provided to users in 2023.
Telekom Slovenije Group has revenue of EUR 756.4 million in 2023, which is 7% more than in 2022. The Group increased its revenue across different segments of operation, with the highest growth in mobile and broadband services, while in the ICT segment the highest revenue increase was in providing cybersecurity, with revenue from the online store, insurance and eHealth also growing, along with revenue in the carrier market. The Group saw a 4% increase in mobile users and a 1% increase in retail broadband connections.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of Telekom Slovenije Group level reached EUR 228.6 million, up EUR 12.1 million, i.e. 6% from 2022. If energy prices in 2023 had remained the same as in 2022, and the company would not have received state aid for energy in 2023, and without the negative impact of the floods, EBITDA would have been 10% higher than in 2022. The EBITDA-to-sales ratio at the Group level was 32.9%.
Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) amounted to EUR 64.1 million at the Group level, which is 27% more than in the same period last year. If energy prices in 2023 had remained the same as in 2022, and the company would not have received state aid for energy in 2023, and without the negative impact of the floods, EBIT would have been 46% higher than in 2022.
In 2023 Telekom Slovenije Group generated a net profit of EUR 47.1 million, which is EUR 9.6 million, i.e. 25% more than in 2022. The net profit of the Telekom Slovenije Group was also affected by the change in the tax rate of the income tax from 19% to 22% from 2024 onward, which had a positive effect of EUR 5.7 million on deferred taxes in 2023. If energy prices in 2023 had remained the same as in 2022, and the company would not have received state aid for energy in 2023, and without the negative impact of the floods, net profit of the Telekom Slovenije Group would have been 30% higher than in 2022.
Net financial debt of Telekom Slovenije Group as at 31 December 2023 was 11% lower than as at 31 December 2022.
Continued network modernisation
In 2023 Telekom Slovenije continued upgrading and modernising its network. Telekom Slovenije now provides the option to connect to its fibre optics network to more than 460,000 Slovenian households, adding 16,980 households in 2023. At the same time, the company also heavily and sustainably invested in strengthening and developing cutting-edge mobile technologies. In 2023 it provided 5G network coverage to an additional 420,000 inhabitants and improved the capacities of its entire mobile network, so that it has now surpassed 60% population coverage with 5G. LTE/4G technology coverage has surpassed 97%. Telekom Slovenije provides the best user experience to more than one million users, while constant and planned development ensures a reliable, stable and secure connectivity with gigabit speeds.
This allows the company to meet the expectations of its users and the users of other major operators in Slovenia who use Telekom Slovenije’s network because it is advanced, capable, reliable, secure and has coverage across the whole country.
Maintaining and strengthening market shares
Telekom Slovenije is solidifying its leading market share in the mobile subscriber segment, where it holds a 35.4% market share, and in the IPTV segment, where its share at the end of 2023 increased to 41.8%. It also increased its fixed broadband access market share to 28.0%.
IPKO was the first and only operator to launch 5G in Kosovo in 2023, alongside other advanced services, including eSIM. IPKO has a 49.2% market share in mobile telephone services in Kosovo, and a 25.5% share in the fixed internet segment.
