Telekom Slovenije and Metronik develop an innovative platform for industrial internet of things

17. 10. 2022

Telekom Slovenije and Metronik took a new step in the development of internet of things (IoT) solutions by developing the innovative cloud-based industrial internet of things (IIoT) platform for monitoring and optimisation of manufacturing machines.

The platform provides manufacturing companies with a method for monitoring the operation of their machines in real time, leading to improved utilisation and availability, as well as predictive maintenance.

Telekom Slovenije and Metronik named their solution IIoT360. The platform provides manufacturers and users of these machines the possibility to capture, transfer, securely store, process and display the data for monitoring and optimisation of the operation of the machines. The accurate data that the platform captures and processes into accessible and understandable information allow businesses to tackle even the most tasking challenges, such as increasing availability by preventing malfunction, achieving optimum methods of use, a developmental upgrade of the machines for improved efficiency and similar. Companies can easily use the IIoT360 platform to create special data visualisations and overviews beyond the standard dashboards. The application operates in Telekom Slovenije’s secure cloud, is available through all standard web browsers, and does not require any additional installations. It can be used on all mobile devices and computers.

“Manufacturing companies are constantly looking for an opportunity to optimise operations, including with the use of technology. One of such areas is ensuring high machine availability, as experience shows that this allows productivity to increase by more than 10 percent. One significant method that supports this is having accurate data on machine operation, which was until recently prohibitively complex and expensive; however, with the help of digitalisation and principles of Industry 4.0, industrial internet of things technologies, and cloud services it has become simpler and more economic,” emphasises Vanja Tomažič, the Director of Automation and Digitalization for Industry and Infrastructure at Metronik, an established provider of innovative solutions for automation and digitalisation in industry, smart buildings and infrastructure companies.

“The main objective of the industrial internet of things is to improve operational efficiency. This means that by capturing the data on the operation of machines, their secure transfer into the cloud and processing them into understandable information can improve the productivity of the machines, prevent malfunctions in a timely manner, increase availability and consequently optimise the operation of the machines. Utilising special devices installed on the machines we capture the data on their operation, the devices prepare these data, and transfer them to Telekom Slovenije’s cloud over a secure connection; all the data is stored in data centres in Slovenia. The companies process the data, analyse them and base their decisions on them,” Samo Turk, the Development Director at Telekom Slovenije, explained the advantages of the solution.

The data is important for optimising maintenance and ensuring faster and cheaper error resolution, as well as for the development of future generations of machines. Industrial companies can obtain a comprehensive overview of operations, increase availability by acting faster when malfunctions occur, and more easily improve manufacturing and maintenance processes. This contributes to fewer and shorter delays, a higher level of quality, improved stability and cost efficiency of manufacturing.
