At the start of Pink October, the international breast cancer awareness month, Telekom Slovenije, in cooperation with Samsung, is once again joining efforts to raise awareness of the importance of looking after one’s health and the early detection of breast cancer.
Telekom Slovenije and Samsung, which have been working with the Europa Donna Slovenia Association for 19 years, will once again support the Association with a donation of EUR 10,000 and help spread the messages of its campaign to as many people as possible. Telekom Slovenije is also encouraging people to take care of themselves and lead an active lifestyle, because every step counts.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, but it is highly treatable if detected early enough. Telekom Slovenije, together with Samsung and the Europa Donna Slovenia Association, encourages women to perform regular monthly breast self-examinations, to recognise the importance of early detection and to see a doctor promptly if they notice any changes. The free Breast Test mobile app is also available to help women perform regular breast self-examinations correctly.
Every step for a good cause counts
The ambassador of this year’s Samsung Modri Fon Pink Ribbon campaign is Romana Naglič, a member of the Europa Donna Slovenia Association. This year, as part of the international Think Pink Europe initiative, she was selected as one of four members of the Slovenian association who had the opportunity to take part in the Pink Camino, during which she took 220,000 steps for a good cause over six days. Drawing on her own life experience, she encourages people to take care of themselves and lead an active lifestyle, while highlighting the importance of early breast cancer detection: “I walked the Pink Camino because I wanted my story to help raise awareness of the importance of early breast cancer detection. If I encourage just one woman to take a step for herself, I will have achieved a lot. Every step counts, both on the Camino and when it comes to taking care of yourself. Illness takes a lot away from you, but it also teaches you to look at life differently and appreciate things you previously took for granted. I have learnt that taking care of yourself is not something you should put off.”
Her story also illustrates one of the key messages of this year’s awareness campaign: every step counts. A step towards regular physical activity and a healthy lifestyle, a step towards monthly breast self-examination, and a step towards seeing a doctor promptly if any changes are detected.
United in Pink October with the Samsung Modri Fon October offer
As part of its long-standing cooperation with Samsung, Telekom Slovenije has once again prepared a special Pink October offer on Modri Fon mobile phones. Raising awareness and providing support together for 19 years
For 19 years, Telekom Slovenije and Samsung have been jointly supporting the Europa Donna Slovenia Association by raising awareness and making donations to programmes that provide assistance to people diagnosed with breast cancer and their loved ones, as well as to awareness-raising activities. The Association’s mission is to raise awareness of breast cancer and provide comprehensive support to patients and their families.
Pink October is also an opportunity to remind ourselves that there is a great deal we can do to protect our own health. More than 30% of all cancers could be prevented, as they are associated with unhealthy lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, an unhealthy diet, insufficient physical activity and excessive exposure to the sun. That is why every step we take for our health counts.
