More than half of the Slovenian population now uses mobile phones to make payments, with nine out of ten people favouring this type of payment.
One of the most popular mobile payment services is the VALÚ smart wallet that Telekom Slovenije launched exactly five years ago, fortifying its position in the financial services market. Over the past five years, more than 147,000 Slovenians have used VALÚ, with the number of users increasing by 90 percent in the last three years. In the past year, VALÚ smart wallet users have conducted more than 2.7 million transactions with their mobile phones, and the average transaction value has increased by 35 percent since 2019.
Telekom Slovenije was a pioneer in mobile payment in Slovenia more than two decades ago with Moneta.
"VALÚ constantly introduces innovations; for example, VALÚ was the first solution in Slovenia to support identification with the new biometric personal ID card in the mobile app, utilising the advanced BetrSign solution. VALÚ will continue to provide the most cutting-edge financial services and set trends in this field, especially in terms of an even better digital user experience, additional services, and expanding the network of providers," said Ajda Brlec, Director of Digitalization at Telekom Slovenije.
The VALÚ smart wallet, available as a mobile app for anyone with a smartphone, consolidates mobile payment services at over 3,500 physical and digital points of sale, managing a prepaid debit account (e-money), sending and receiving money, transactions from bank accounts, and the use of the VALÚ Mastercard debit card for payments and cash withdrawals abroad.
Additional features include splitting the bill among multiple payers (for example, sharing the cost at a restaurant) and access to VALÚ Market, an in-app store where users can purchase various products and services such as Paysafe cards, ski passes, and tickets for various events.
VALÚ giving away 5 EUR for its birthday
On the occasion of VALÚ's fifth birthday, VALÚ will be giving away 5 EUR to users between 13 and 30 June. During the promotion period every user who tops up their VALÚ account with VALÚ Moneta, debit or credit cards, via bank transfer, or automatic recharge of 50 EUR or more, will receive an additional 5 EUR in their VALÚ account. The promotion is available to the first 1,000 users.
