Chess is a game with a wealth of history, played by about 600 million people across the globe. It is also exceptionally popular in Slovenia, and has been for centuries, with more than 100,000 people playing it.
These include our excellent chess player Laura Unuk, the first Slovenian woman chess player to be awarded the International Master title, who has been raising the popularity of chess with her victories and other activities. Laura and her team prepared the first comprehensive online chess course in Slovenia, aimed at both beginners and expert players. Chess with Laura Unuk is a programme option, available in Slovenia exclusively to the subscribers of Telekom Slovenije's NEO platform, across all the screens – on TV, on the web and in the NEO mobile app.
Chess with Laura Unuk programme option has been available since 3 December, and in the first season of this online course, which is actually a 9-part video series, Laura uncovers the depths of the game of chess: from its history, basic moves and the psychology of playing the game, to the most advanced elements of chess, such as opening moves, attacks, defences, piece swaps, final moves and an analysis of winning matches.
"I decided to make this online course because I want chess to become better recognised and more popular. But even more than that, I want people to see the deeper meaning in chess and to understand that chess is not just a game for relaxation. This course is unique, and there has never been anything like it in Slovenia. I want it to encourage younger generations to play, and to perhaps create future chess grandmasters. Collaboration with a company like Telekom Slovenije really means a lot to me. Chess is unfortunately not among the most popular sports, and this means that chess players find it hard to get the attention and support of major and successful corporations. I am therefore even happier that Telekom Slovenije has recognised the potential of this noble sport. Together we will raise Slovenian chess to the next level," said Laura Unuk at the launch.
Laura Unuk explores the attractive secrets of the royal game that have won over influential people throughout history, including Albert Einstein, William Shakespeare, Ludwig Beethoven, Isaac Newton, Bill Gates, Frank Sinatra, John Lennon, Ray Charles, Ben Affleck, Abraham Lincoln, Leonardo di Caprio, and many others.
The programme option Chess with Laura Unuk is available for EUR 2.99 (incl. VAT) per month.
