Data shows that Slovenian users are exceptionally welcoming to new technological developments, as over the past four years more than 120,000 Telekom Slovenije’s subscribers have started using voice search for TV content by simply saying what they want to watch – the title of the film or TV show, an actor’s name, a TV channel or similar.
Voice search for TV content in Slovenian is a feature that Telekom Slovenije launched with the NEO TV platform at the end of 2018, and the solution is the result of research and development made by Telekom Slovenije’s experts. Consequently, the platform is able to adapt constantly and quickly to the viewing habits of Slovenian TV viewers.
“From the perspective of content watching, television as a medium is undergoing tectonic shifts. Users have complete control over the content they watch: they want more and more personalised content, more connectivity, more entertainment and especially to be able to watch any content when they want to. Our main guideline is to make access to content as simple as possible. With voice commands the NEO platform introduced a completely new experience into Slovenian homes, doing away with the traditional remote. Subscribers can simply find TV content by speaking the name of the TV channel or content they want to watch, for example the title of a film or a TV show, or even by the name of an actor, a genre, a sports match or similar. To achieve this NEO, also utilises artificial intelligence that we use to constantly optimise the platform,” said Simon Slonjšak, Director of Product and Service Development at Telekom Slovenije.
Finding content using voice search has become a completely everyday task and is listed among the most popular features. Users most often use it to call up the TV channel they want to watch, and over the last year 93 million such voice commands have been spoken. NEO is capable of searching for content across all TV channels, video libraries and YouTube, and understands Slovenian. The most searched after film last year was Home Alone.
A growing number of users are watching TV content using time-shift services, with the percentage rising to 95%.
The NEO platform has numerous other advantages, such as improved image quality with resolutions of up to 4K, more TV channels and more than 10,000 pieces of on-demand content, available across several video libraries: DKino, HBO Max, HBO on Demand, Epic Drama, Pickbox, Voyo, Chess with Laura Unuk, Da Vinci Kids, Minimax+, Curiosity Stream, Kultura, Kitchen TV, Dajmedol and Dajmedol+.
Until the end of November this year, Telekom Slovenije will be replacing all other set-top boxes free of charge, so that all subscribers to TV services will switch to the NEO platform.
NEO is also a gaming console with more than 150 games, as the platform supports cloud gaming, one of the hottest global trends right now. The NEO Igre gaming service is available to users on fibre-optic connections, as well as on mobile devices. The most popular NEO games of 2022 were Pure Farming 2018, ATV Drift & Tricks and Sniper Ghost Warrior 2. The most popular types of games are racing, sports and action games, followed by adventure games.
All NEO subscription plans are available at the single promotional price of EUR 28. New and existing subscribers can also get any of the ten programming options and the Mega HD channel listing at half price for two years. NEO Igre gaming service is free of charge for 6 months with a 2-year subscription.
