Telekom Slovenije and Samsung will be putting a share of proceeds from sales of every Samsung Galaxy S10+ and Samsung Galaxy A70 mobile phone made in November, when activities for raising awareness of prostate cancer are traditionally underway, to OnkoMan, the Slovenian Oncology Association for Men.
OnkoMan is collecting these funds to purchase a simulator of transurethral operations on the urinary bladder and prostate that will facilitate better and more effective endoscopic treatment for patients with a benign enlarged prostate and tumours of the urinary bladder.
After Pink October, which is focused on raising public awareness about breast cancer, November is devoted to men’s health and the diseases that plague them. According to the latest data about 1,700 men get prostate cancer in Slovenia every year, and nearly 400 die, making prostate cancer the most frequent type of cancer for men.
Gregor Pirc, the president of OnkoMan, the Slovenian Oncology Association for Men, says that men are “real heroes and macho on the outside, that is, until they need to visit a doctor. That is when our weakness and softness comes out in the open. And this very fear is the reason we die more frequently than women. A hard shell and soft insides are characteristic of the crab, which is cancer in Latin. And this is also in our character that external factors cannot hurt us as long as friends and family are at our side. But once we’re left alone, we become aware of our fears and softness. The soft interior does not give us the courage to say we’re sorry, to admit our mistakes, let alone to see a doctor. A hard shell only makes us miss life. And that is why we founded our association: to bring awareness to Slovenian men and their loved ones that prevention is key and that we are here for all those who have just stepped into our shoes. This year, with the support of the Association of Urologists of Slovenia, we started raising funds to purchase a urological operation simulator. It is our great honour and joy that Telekom Slovenije and Samsung also recognized the value of our work and joined the campaign.”
Why Slovenia needs a urological simulator?
A urological simulator provides high quality endoscopic treatment of patients with a benign enlarged prostate and tumours of the urinary bladder. The advantage of the simulator is a decrease in operative complications (lower blood loss, fewer perforations of the urinary bladder, etc.) and a faster discharge into home care. At the same time the simulator has the advantage of being mobile, which means it can be available to all Slovenian hospitals for simulations of patient treatment.
The Samsung Galaxy S10+ and the Samsung Galaxy A70 are available from Telekom Slovenije in November as the promoted devices, Modri Fon. With a 24-month contract the Samsung Galaxy A70 is available from €10 per month, while the Samsung Galaxy S10+ is available from €29.50 per month.
