During Pink October, the international month of raising breast cancer awareness, Telekom Slovenije and Samsung handed a donation of EUR 10,000 to Tanja Španić, the president of Europa Donna Slovenia.
On behalf of Samsung the donation was handed over by Tomaž Semić, and on behalf of Telekom Slovenije by Špela Fortin, member of the Management Board – Workers’ Director, and by Manica Šegš, who had also experienced breast cancer, and who emphasised that when facing and battling the disease she found tremendous support in members of the association and the activities they provided; when she did not know what to expect, they provided support as a community, with relevant expert information and a fast response that she found invaluable.
Telekom Slovenije and Samsung have been supporting Europa Donna Slovenija for 15 years, while the association has been performing its activities for raising awareness of breast cancer and providing support to patients and their families following a breast cancer diagnosis for 25 years. This is the most common type of cancer among women. The companies support the association every year with two “pink” mobile phones and a donation of EUR 10,000. Over the past 15 years the companies have donated a total of EUR 150,000 to Europa Donna Slovenija for raising awareness about breast cancer. This October they began offering at especially low prices the Samsung Galaxy A13 2022 (from 24 x EUR 5.19), and the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G 128 GB (from 24 x EUR 12.92).
Tanja Španić, the president of Europa Donna Slovenija expressed her gratitude: “We are sincerely happy of the years of support from Telekom Slovenije and Samsung, who have been helping us raise awareness of breast cancer for 15 years now. Through their now traditional “pink phones” the companies help raise awareness among their customers about the need for taking care of one’s health and the importance of a healthy lifestyle and early cancer detection. We have used the donated funds to develop and upgrade our programmes for supporting patients and their families, and this really means a lot to us.”

We firmly believe that by working together we will be able to overcome all the challenges that the disease brings,” Tomaž Semič, head of marketing at Samsung Electronics Slovenija, commented this year’s pink October activities.
Špela Fortin, Management Board member – Workers’ Director at Telekom Slovenije, commented this year donation by emphasising that “facing the disease is a major challenge both for patients and their families. Therefore, it is exceptionally important that they have access to comprehensive support, both healthcare and social and emotional care, as human contact is what can significantly ease these hard moments. As a socially responsible company we are very proud to have been for 15 years now contributing our share in raising awareness about breast cancer and ovarian cancer, as well as the importance of preventive care and a healthy lifestyle.”
The symbol for breast cancer awareness is a pink ribbon that we pin on in October. It connects us in solidarity, compassion and charity, while also raising awareness of breast cancer and other forms of cancer, and the importance of preventing and treating these diseases. Breast cancer is highly treatable when detected early enough, and regular monthly self-checks and a timely consultation with a physician when any changes are detected can significantly contribute to that.
